Food trucks looking to take hold in Bergen County

Rosie’s Weenie Wagon will be dishing out Evil Devil Dawgs in Palisades Interstate Park this summer. Callahan’s, the former Fort Lee hot dog purveyor turned Norwood restaurant, plans to park its bright-yellow truck outside Van Saun Park in Paramus. And a dozen trucks from Philadelphia and New Jersey will be facing off at JerseyFest on Saturday at the New Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford.

For sure, you’ll have many more chances to hit food trucks here this summer than you did just a few years ago. But while the food truck scene is exploding in other parts of the state, many of our government officials remain cautious. 

 

Totowa resident Jon Hepner, who runs the New Jersey Food Truck Association, characterizes the Bergen area as still dipping a "toe in the water," unlike towns such as Hoboken and Jersey City that have passed or are working on legislation to help food trucks park there on a regular basis. That is a shame: Hepner says he thinks our residents are "very much in favor of food trucks." But it requires willing government officials...
